Why was it relatively easy for ibn battuta to travel such long distances in the 14th century and do so in relative safety?

Was it due to pax mongolia, the spread of dar al islam, or both?Why was it relatively easy for ibn battuta to travel such long distances in the 14th century?Mostly the second option, as he mostly traveled in Muslim countries and there was never a meaningful pax mongolia.
