Why do some people need to travel such long distances to work?

Why do some people need to travel such long distances to work?

What do you think about people having to travel (long distances) to work everyday?

Do you think more people have to do this today than previously? Why do some people need to travel such long distances to work?Way more today than previously. People can't always afford to live in the area where they work. This seems to be especially true in So Cal, and probably surrounding big cities like NY and Chicago.

I do it and find it to be a real bummer. It creates a lot of extra stress and really adds to the length of your day. A one hour drive each way makes me gone from home for 11 hours (I have to take an hour lunch).

Thank goodness for the weekends! Why do some people need to travel such long distances to work?
The health care industry now has more outreach programs, satellite clinics,%26amp; home health clients. I think it's wonderful they come to you vs you going to them when your situation is already comprimised. Why do some people need to travel such long distances to work?to work
I think the basic reason is that people want to have big houses. They don't want to get an apartment or condo in the city where they work, rather they insist on getting a single family home out in the suburbs where it's cheaper. Sometimes it's necessary, but often times the cost and stress of commuting will outweigh any benefits. Why do some people need to travel such long distances to work?Yes, commutes are longer nowadays. Most people commute because the jobs are around the cities and people choose to live in the suburbs. A lot of times, even the suburbs around a city don't have very good public schools, so they have to go farther out.Why do some people need to travel such long distances to work?

people travel long distance to work because they have families and responsibilities and also because the area they live in might not pay as well.

I'm in So Cal. Most do it for higher pay. I argue that the difference in pay is often not worth it. I consider myself working from the time I start the day until I'm home and showered from work. Alot of people consider themselves off work when sitting on the road instead of their couch? So in my mind may pay is averaged over the time I spent for work not the time I was there. So add in the long drive as work time and the hourly pay is actually lower than advertised. People often don't consider the cost of transportation, purchase of a car, maint and fuel add up fast with a lot of driving. I'd say easily 50% of commuters could effectivly have the same income locally with the lower advertised income, but they don't do the math on the whole picture.
Do your own homework.
