How to travel from Chennai airport to Chidambaram?

I'm reaching Chennai by a domestic flight on a sunday in the evening (around 5:30 pm). How do I travel to Chidambaram from there?

How safe is it for a girl travelling alone?

Where do I catch a train to Chidambaram? What time, which station?

Or, if a bus is more convenient, where do I catch it from?

What time will I reach Chidambaram if I travel by bus or train? How to travel from Chennai airport to Chidambaram?as there is no direct train to chidambarm from chennai i suggest you to travel by tamilndadu state express bus corportion. it will be comfortable and also safe. as you are coming on sunday evening it will be better you get this bus directly from cmbt (central mofisul bus terminus ) at koyambadu. all the bus which goes to chidambaram go through the airport itself you can get this bus out side the airport itself but as you are coming on sunday evening there will be no seats if you catch that buses out side the airport. my suggestion is as follows.

as soon as you get down at airport take a auto to cmbt bus stand which is nearby 12 to 14 km from airport. he will charge you between 75 to 125 rs . or come out side the airport to main road and catch any mofusil busses which go towards chennai . (to your left ).

all mofusil bus goes to cmbt. get down there and ask any body at cmbt where the chidambarm bus start. chennai to chidambaram is 6 to 7 hours journey.

do not worry about travelling alone in tamilnadu as it is safe you wont have any harrasment here except auto man may ask some excess money, bargain with them maximum up to 150 you can pay him.

you have every 15 minute a bus to chidambaram from cmbt so do not worry about seat.and bus

have your dinner at cmbt itself and catch the bus after 8.00 p.m.so you can reach chidambarm at early morning 4.00 . calculatue your self the time when you want to reach chidambaram and catch the bus as per your time. there are two type of buses towards chidambaram one is tamilnadu state corportion and other is tamilnadu state express corportion which is two seater luxury bus. i suggest you to travel by express bus corportion as it will be comfortable.

where in the world are these places? never heard of.How to travel from Chennai airport to Chidambaram?I suggest you stay over night in Chennai. You can take a prepaid cab from the airport and check into one of the decent hotels in the city. Your options to go to Chidambaram are (a) taxi engaged through the hotel where you stay (b) Public Transport(bus from the depot) or Train. The hotel front office can help you in any of these cases. Please avoid shared cabs and late evening/night journey. You can also contact the Tourist Reception counter in the airport for any assistance.

You can: -

There are two ways to travel to Chidambaram. The first route is Chennai - Chengalpet - Tindivanam - Pondicherry - Cuddalore - Bhuvanagiri - Chidambaram which should be 230 Kms or less since the distance is from the airport and not from the 0 Point of Chennai. The other route is Tiruvanmiyur(Chennai) - Mahabalipuram - Marakanam - Pondicherry - Cuddalore - Bhuvanagiri - Chidambaram . Since you are arriving at the airport , It is better to travel by the first route which would be the shortest since the airport is enroute to Chengalpet. You can travel by Private buses like Rathimeena (K.P.N) which is quite safe or hire a taxi. The train service to Chidambaram is currently suspended due to guage conversion work otherwise the option would be to take a train to chidambaram from tambaram which is the nearest rail head. The government run SETC buses also ply to Chidambaram. My suggestion would be to either take a taxi or Rathi meena (KPN) bus to chidambaram . You can book a ticket on Rathimeena's(KPN) website : http://www.rathimeena.co.in and the site lists the nearest boarding point .Please be sure as to which boarding point you select. Rathimeena is quite safe. You can hire a taxi from the airport but do remember they charge you for both ways ie chennai - chidambaram and chidambaram - chennai even if you are not coming back in the taxi. It is quite safe to travel in Rathimeena's bus and also if you are taking a taxi from the airport . (You get a receipt with the Vehicle Number ,Drivers name , Emergency numbers such as the police and their Service number). How to travel from Chennai airport to Chidambaram?
