How can I travel from Beijing to Hong Kong in about a month?

I would like to know whats the best way to travel large distances in China. Are the railways good? Can you hire cars? Me and my boyfriend are going and we are 18 so does that limit hiring vehicles? How long does it take to travel to places? Thanks! How can I travel from Beijing to Hong Kong in about a month?Because Asia in general is so cheap, you should check into the price of airfare while you're there. If you buy your tickets IN China (e.g. don't try to buy them ahead of time in North America) they can be ridiculously cheap and convenient.

The trains aren't bad either, but they can be very crowded at times. Although I never encountered them, I've also heard that some trains were really dirty. That being said, I travelled from Hong Kong to Guilin via train (16 hours) and it was really clean and nice (with the exception of the bathroom - the squatting toilet would swirl all the dirty water up and out when you flushed). The trains from Shanghai to Nanjing/Hangzhou were very crowded - they sold sitting and standing tickets so sometimes someone would sit on your armrest for the trip.

I don't know the rules for hiring vehicles but I would recommend against it. If you don't read Chinese it can be a nightmare trying to find your way around a city. In addition there's A LOT of construction going on all the time, so highways can be in poor shape or closed.

The length of time to get from one place to another depends on where you're going. Trains seem to leave and arrive on time, and depending on the type of bus you take it depends. If you take a big regular Greyhound-ish type of bus it has a regular schedule. If you take a smaller van it will wait until it has enough passengers to make it worth their while. How can I travel from Beijing to Hong Kong in about a month?
As everywhere, long distance flights are faster and more expensive than rail travel. Hiring (and driving) a car may be difficult for foreigners in China.

A flight Hong Kong -Beijing lasts about 3h40.

You find details (destinations, frequencies %26amp; durations) of flights and trains to and from Beijing here:

If you opt for railways, understanding Chinese may help

.How can I travel from Beijing to Hong Kong in about a month?Flying within Asia is relatively cheap, just like flying within Europe. There is also train you can take from Beijing to Hong Kong (not sure how many days though). I wouldn't recommend driving in China or Hong Kong if you are not familiar with roads there - it's very different from driving at home (different side, much more cars and bicycles and people on the road, etc.) If time's an issue, check out Asian airlines (ie. Air China, Cathay Pacific, etc.) for their within-Asia specials. If not, I'd say check out the rail option.

It will take a few days to travel by train to HK from BJ but if you have the time, it's quite an experience to see some smaller towns as the train passes by.

HK is one of the most fascinating city to be. Check www.DiscoverHongKong.com and enjoy!
China has extensive and well developed air and rail networks. Travel between major cities, like Beijing and Hong Kong, is extremely easy with direct flights numerous times per day.

Car rental would not be available to you due to your age, lack of a Chinese driver's license, and other factors. However, you can always call a taxi for local trips.

Enjoy your visit to China! How can I travel from Beijing to Hong Kong in about a month?
plane, train, bus... up to you...

railways are good...

theoretically you can hire a car but it will be very expensive...

as expensive as a plane ticket...maybe more...

if you and your boyfriend are going there -- maybe he should arrange that?...

age doesn't mean any "limit for hiring vehicles"...

coz you will have it with a driver...

time depends on the way of travelling you prefer...
