How much money should I take to travel to Melbourne?

I'm planning to go to Melbourne in 3 years time when I reach 18 yrs. I'm planning to travel to Melbourne by air, then stay one night in Melbourne, rent a car then drive to a town about 35km from the city. I plan to stay there for 2 weeks, around April. How much money should I save up for, including car hire, accommodation and flight costs? Currently you can get accommodation from about $80 upwards per night and cars work out at about $100 per day with insurance etc but would probably be quite a bit higher if you are 18 and on P plates. The fares will depend on where you are flying from and I imagine they will be quite different to what they are at the moment so no benefit in predicting them.



I think if you aim for about $2-$3,000 you could have a great time and do all the thigs you would like to do (if you are travelling within Australia.
