How do you travel on a plane with a dog?

Can a German Shepard size dog travel on a plane. If yes, how and what is needed for travel? How do you travel on a plane with a dog?Only selected airlines will ship pets for you. Southwest does not. It will cost about 2/3 of a full price ticket. There are a ton of regulations you will need to go through to do this. The animal will need to ride in the cargo hold. There are restrictions on times of year this cannot be done because of temperature. Call different airlines and find out how much it will be. If the dog is large you may be charged more. You will need a hard plastic kennel for the dog to fly in, and there are rules about when the last time the dog can have been fed and watered, as well as vet documentation. You will need three health certificates that show the address the dog is traveling to. Some vets charge for this.

I am thinking all together you will spent about $900 to fly your dog for round trip air fare, the kennel, vet records, and other expenses. If you can drive instead or have your dog be in doggie daycare near your home while you are gone that would be better. The Pet Hotel at Petsmart is about $30-45 a day.

Hope that helps.

Call your airline. Some airlines, like Southwest, only allow assistive animals for those with disabilities. Since your dog is a full sized dog, he will have to travel in the belly of the aircraft. Make sure you get the maximum dimensions of the kennel allowed by the airline. If your kennel is too large, they may deny your pet. Make sure that you make a reservation for your pet so that you can have assurance that your pet is on the same flight as you . There is only a certain amount of pets allowed on each type of aircraft. There will be a fee involved. Just check with your airline and if it is your pet's first time flying, you may want to go to the vet and get him a mild sedative.

Good luck and safe travelsHow do you travel on a plane with a dog?it all depends on the airline and the destination.

since your dog is big, you will be be paying per pound to put it into the animal cargo.

if you are going overseas (and ALL countries and airlines have their own rules)

but generally speaking, you will need to microchip, have a rabies shot a year before but no less than a month before you travel, have an internationally certified vet fill out an international health certificate 7-10 days before you leave and then take that form to your local USDA office to get officially stamped.

if you are going overseas call you local consulate office for their rules and then let the airline you are flying know you have a dog you want to bring. i dont know how it works for the US - you probably do not have to do all the paperworkHow do you travel on a plane with a dog?
Most airlines will let you fly with a pet if the animal is under 5 kg, or about eight pounds. How do you travel on a plane with a dog?http://www.mahalo.com/How_to_Fly_With_Pe鈥?/a>
