How much does the moon phase affect deer travel during the day?

Everybody says moon phase mess wiht daily deer travel. I realize it's easier for a deer to see in a full moon but deer are pretty much nocturnal anyways so why does it make a difference. I get more trail cam pictures at night no matter what the moon phase is, but there never seems to be a change in deer movement if the moon phase is different.How much does the moon phase affect deer travel during the day?In a lifetime of hunting I have found a full moon to have no effect on deer movement. There are times there will be almost no daytime movement even in the dark moon phase. People just seem to want to blame something for the lack of deer movement. And the moon is a good scape goat.



Two years ago on my hunting lease while bow hunting 3 of us killed a deer and one did not even see one. His excuse? He pointed to the sky at the full moon and said that was the reason he saw nothing. I didn't have the heart to remind him there had been 3 deer killed that weekend already. It's human nature to want to blame something.How much does the moon phase affect deer travel during the day?
I cain't explain the science of it. I do note that when the calender designates one day over another and time of day for peak animal activity I do see a difference. As for deer moving in the day it's usually related to heat, hunger or thirst. Deer like a sunny spot in the morning of a cold day shade in the heat of the day an early evening and morning snack and drink before heading to beading areas during the day and feeding area's at night. I have seen also deer attracted to sprinkler systems for a water resource and these were set at 5am or 5pm deer were nearly always about. Now do deer wear a timex? I don't know but they never seemed to miss being there at the right time.How much does the moon phase affect deer travel during the day?The bigger and brighter the moon, the more the deer will move at night and the less they will move at day. A smallish moon or new moon with some cloud cover will make for a great next day of hunting because if they cant see great that night they will bed up and wait till light to get up and move... The curent moon is near full therefore the deer a mostly moving at night. seeing one right now would require a realllllly cold day or seeing them just before dark or just before day... if its cold nomater how bright the night the deer will be forced to move because they need food to keep up thier body temp....
