What experience is needed to become a travel agent?

E.G do you need to take travel and tourism in college, or if you apply for the job will you be taught what you need for the job?What experience is needed to become a travel agent?I was taught on the job....but the commission part sucked and the boss was always on my back to make more money each month. Great job...lousy pay though..i was paid a junior rate for learning on the job. :)
