I am going to Athens, Santorini and Mykonos. I am trying to find a cheap, efficient way to travel between the islands and to the mainland. Is there public transportation or ferries? Do I have to buy tickets from a private company? If so, any recommendation?
Thank you so much !What is the most efficient method to travel in between greek islands? There are literally lots of ferries connecting every island and also connecting Athens with the islands.
You can buy most ferry tickets in travel agencies, own ferry agencies and without any problem the same day at the ferry itself (in their ticket offices in Pireas harbour)
Is not only cheap traveling Greek Islands with ferry, but also a wonderful experience.
Have a look at this website http://www.greekislandhopping.com
Only a recommendation is if you're going to Greece in August it should be advisable to book your ferry tickets and hotel in advance, but if not you still have plenty of chances to find a ticket and a hotel room.
I love Greece, I've been many times in Athens and many Greek Islands and I always did it with ferry. No problem at all, but wonderful sea and incredibly beautiful islands landscape instead. I'm already missing Greece... Λατρε?ω την Ελλ?δαWhat is the most efficient method to travel in between greek islands?
Your options:
-Regular ferries are the cheapest and the most plentiful.
-Flying Dolphins (hydrofoil boats) are more expensive and quick.
-Airplanes are the most expensive, but not always the fastest (once you factor in all the time you waste at the airport).
The ferries are run by private companies. There are numerous booking agencies available online if you want advanced booking (recommended for August). One place to start is http://www.ferries.gr/.
In the Athens area, most ships depart from Piraeus in the southwest. There is metro station just next to the ferry terminal. What is the most efficient method to travel in between greek islands? If money is not an issue, then flying is probably the most efficient and the fastest way. Not all islands have airports, but SANTORINI and MYKONOS do.
Take the ferry......here is where you can find info and prices and make reservations.....http://paleologos.forth-crs.gr/english/n…
p.s. it's not necessary to make your reservation in advance. unless it's august, you can just get your ticket the day of your trip or the day beforeWhat is the most efficient method to travel in between greek islands?

Ferry or air, like http://en.aegeanair.com/, will have some cheap fares if you book a little bit ealier.
