What causes earache in some people during air travel and what is the antidote?

I recently flew Lufthansa from Abuja to frankfurt but my journey was spoilt by the terrible presurre-like pain I felt in my ear towards the end if the trip. I'm now scarred of air travel as a result. Has anyone else had a similar experience? How can one possibly prevent such, cope with it when it occurs or recover quickly from it afterwards? What causes earache in some people during air travel and what is the antidote? It's caused by the change in air-pressure. Chew gum to stimulate your swallowing reflex; that will mitigate the muzziness. What causes earache in some people during air travel and what is the antidote? The best advice I know is to take otc decongestant pills a day or two ahead and to drink extra water on the flight. I've had good results the last several times, and prior to that the pain was excruciating!!What causes earache in some people during air travel and what is the antidote? The pain is caused by the sudden change in pressure as the plane begins its descent for landing. Some people experiance worse pain than others due to having smaller ear canals.

People use special ear plugs or chew gum if it is a problem for them. I usually try to yawn and make my ears "pop." You can also hold your nose, close your mouth and try to blow air through your nose, forcing your sinuses to equalize the pressure inside of them.

Usually people who have excessive pain in their ears as a result of flying also have the same pain if they attempt underwater diving more than a few feet below the water's surface, so you may want to avoid that as well. What causes earache in some people during air travel and what is the antidote?
The ear is an enclosed system, which is why ear infections are not as common as the common cold. This enclosed system is in equilibrium with the atmospheric pressure because there are tiny openings to the ear that allow it to adjust the outside air pressure. This adjustment is very slow and since you really don't change elevations very rapidly on the ground, there's no problem. Airplanes on the other hand can climb very fast and the air pressure drops dramatically (Air pressure lowers with elevation because the column of air pressing down towards the earth decreases). The air is so thin at 33,000 feet (average altitude for jets) that you'll die of hypoxia in less that 15 seconds. But the pilot adjusts the cabin pressure to around 8,000-10,000 feet or more so people can stay alive. The more the cabin is pressurized the more the pressure will feel like ground-level. The reason the pilot doesn't pressurize the cabin to sea-level is because it burns a lot of gas. The more similar the cabin and atmospheric pressures outside the airplane are, the less work (and less fuel) the airplane has expend in maintaining pressure. If you ever have the privilege to fly in a private jet ask the pilot to pressurize the cabin to sea-level and then you'll not have the earache. You'll probably end up paying a lot more for the flight 'cause keeping sea-level pressure up at 33,000 feet burns MAJOR fuel.

Looks like you weren't blessed with good compensating mechanisms in your ear (unlike me haha, I've never had earaches while flying). Chewing gum helps a lot of people. You will have to chew gum during ascend and descend to allow your inner ear to adjust to the cabin pressure. Once the pressures are equal, you can spit out the gum. But look at the bright side, some people have such bad pressure problems with their ears during flight it makes them vomit during take-offs. They usually don't feel as sick during landings because the ear is a lot better in letting air inside than evacuating (remember, air always moves from high pressure to low pressure. If you opened the emergency door or broke an airplane window at 33,000 feet you'll get sucked right out). There's so much to say about air pressure in airplanes I can go on and on. If you need to know more, let me know.

What would be the least expensive way to travel to Poland?

I would like to go to Poland for 7 days anytime between May 26th and July 27th. I would prefer to fly from Baltimore and arrive in Warsaw. If it would be cheaper to fly from somewhere else within a few hours of Baltimore that could work. Or if it would be cheaper to fly somewhere else in Europe and then take another flight or an alternate form of transportation to Warsaw, that would also work. I have done on-line searches for cheap flights but with fees and taxes I have not found anything under $1000. Any travel tips or cheap flight resources would be helpful. Thanks! What would be the least expensive way to travel to Poland?I played around on kayak.com ANd I found this on June 9 to 16

from National the fare is 802 oncluding taxes, but you have to stop twice in Boston and Zurich

Even though you are booking thru United it is actually a USAirways flight from BOS-DCA

This should get you started, play with the dates and see what else you can find.

I also tried NY airports that turned out to be more expensive

If you select EWR (Newark) and check the nearby airpots box you search all the NY airports and Philly as well

I am flying to Poznan, Poland from Toronto Ontario Canada on May 26th. I bought a plane ticket for $975. All I did was google travel agencies in your area and call them up and ask for a quote or price from baltimore to Poland. They give you a price and if its good tell them to hold it until you call back to reserve. Thats how I booked and found the cheap ticket under $1000.

  • Is it ok to travel during the 1st trimemster of pregnancy?

I'm aware that it is best to travel during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy and was wondering how high the chances of miscarrying when traveling during the 1st trimester? Back in November, I'd just found out I was pregnant (about 4 wks along) and traveled to the West Coast and Hong Kong for about 2 weeks. After that I went to my first prenatal visit and found out that I had miscarried. I was beyond devasted and was told not to blame myself. I couldn't help but think,"Maybe if I didn't travel, then I wouldn't have miscarried." Now my husband and I would like to try again (to conceive) next month, but we were thinking of traveling to the West Coast in July. That means if were were successful (on conceiving) I'd be about 8 or 9 wks along. Would it be safe to travel at that time? I'm just scared to miscarry again and what are the chances of that happening again? Is it ok to travel during the 1st trimemster of pregnancy?Yes it is safe to travel during 1st trimester. Im quite sure you miscarried because of something else. I travelled in the 1st trimester and was fineIs it ok to travel during the 1st trimemster of pregnancy?
My obgyn said it was fine to travel. I flew from coast to coast when I was about 7 weeks pregnant. Just get up and walk around a bit on the plane. I am sorry about your first m.c. but I don't think that travel was the issue. I was scared to travel, too, but my dr reassured me.Is it ok to travel during the 1st trimemster of pregnancy?Honey miscarrying has nothing to do with you traveling. It has to do with you body rejecting the embryo or fetus. So if you want to travel than by all means go ahead.

I had twins with my 2nd pregnancy. Is it ok to travel during the 1st trimemster of pregnancy?I went on vacation to disney world when i was 10 weeks pregnant. We had booked the trip before i found out i was pregnant. I asked my doctor about traveling and she said it was perfectly safe to travel, just to make sure i got up and walked around while on the plane to promote good circulation. I am sure that your traveling is not what caused your miscarriage. Good luck trying again!!Is it ok to travel during the 1st trimemster of pregnancy?
I am sorry for about your miscarriage, A lot of women have the concept that miscarriages happen for something they do but scientifically speaking miscarriages happen most of the time within the first 15 weeks for many reasons the embryo may have had genetic problems in many cases can not continue remember that our body get rid of things that are no longer needed .The odds of that happening again are rare unless you suffer from a certain problem like a weak cervix or anything like that . Good Luck but i suggest you consult your doctor before traveling and stop feeling guilty trust me you are better off lossing a baby in the first stage of pregnacny that later in the 2nd or 3rd trimester !
yes it is okay to travel earlie in the pregnancy... the doctors usually say the flights wont let you on after 32 weeks... i looked into it, cuz i am currently in Hawaii and wanna go home to PA for the birth and i asked, and that is what they told me, so you are completely fineIs it ok to travel during the 1st trimemster of pregnancy?
Oh it is absolutely safe to travel during your first, second, and most of your third trimesters. Just make sure when you are close to your due date....at least a few weeks....dont travel anywhere too far, because there are always a chance that you may have the baby early.

What is the advantage of going through a travel agent when I can research vacations on my own?

Do travel agents get you a better rate? Can they get perks that you would not be able to get on your own? Can they negotiate better deals?

Thanks! What is the advantage of going through a travel agent when I can research vacations on my own?I have been in the Travel Business for 34 years. I think that a good travel Agent (and they are not all good ones!) can save you time and money. Their knowledge is invaluable and for the most part it is free if you are booking other than just an airline ticket.

A good Travel Agent knows where the "deals" can be found. They do nothing but book travel and research destinations, hotels, tour operators and cruise lines all day long. Some even know about Consolidators or they might belong to Consortium's that can get you some really great "deals". They can find the right price and the right destination for you.

They work for you. They can qualify you and find the best place and the best price for you. Most are bonded so your hard earned vacation dollar is protected should they go out of business overnight and leave you hanging.

Most importantly, they can do it all. You could spend hours researching a trip but they can do it all in minutes. They should be unbiased, looking out for you, not pushing their airline of their hotel.

Then they are there should anything go wrong to try and assist you in refunds, or handle complaints. A lot of Travel Agencies have clout and their suppliers want their continued business. You represent one trip, they represent an unknown amount. You are one client, they are again, untold numbers of clients.

Travel Agents can advise you as to climate, currency, cultures and customs. They can also advise you as to vaccinations, health requirement, documents required (i.e. Visas etc.)

Sure you can research it on your own. Doing your homework is your part of a great vacation. We call it know before you go.

So yes, Travel Agents can get you a better rate. Let's say you get onto Southwest's website wanting to book a flight. A Travel Agent has every airline's flights and prices in front of them, not just one. He or she can find not only the best price, but the best schedule to suit you, their customer.

Can they get you perks? Sure can. Many are members of Consortium's that offer special rates and special features. For instance, on a cruise and agent might be able to get you shipboard credit or upgrades to a better Stateroom at no cost to you.

Can they negotiate better deals, that is what they do. They can book one person or one thousand people. Try that on your home computer.

A great Travel Agent is someone that truly wants to make your dream a reality. Personalized attention! Satisfaction and I bet your computer will not send you a bottle of wine on your cruise either! LOLWhat is the advantage of going through a travel agent when I can research vacations on my own?I have gotten cheaper flights and hotel roomsWhat is the advantage of going through a travel agent when I can research vacations on my own?I have been booking online for years. The last time I used a travel agent was 5 years ago. I would like to know the answer too. The best I can figure is there is no advantage, and several disadvantages of going through a travel agent. By travel agent, I believe you mean the ones that aren't online.

The biggest advantage is if you are unfamiliar traveling, or going to a foreign country where they may be able to give you tips and vital travel information. But you can always research this online yourself.

The Travel agents around here have started to charge fees. So, given I can usually at worst book a trip and match their price, I am still saving the outrageous fee they charge.

The next advantage is if you don't have much time to book. But then, there is always a convenience to you time. I can search at 11 PM or 2 AM online. But to use a Travel Agent I usually have to give up my lunch hour or go in after work. AND those are the busiest times to show up at their office.

Is it safe to travel in the 12th to 15th week of pregnancy?

    Hello everyone!

I am 11 weeks pregnant with my first baby, with some spotting in the 8th %26amp; 10th week. Previously I miscarried twice before 8 weeks. I have to travel in the 12th to 15th week of my pregnancy. I am afraid it might be harmful. My travel would consist of one about 2 hours and another about 7 hours flight.

I need your sincere advice regarding this serious issue. Special thanks to any doctors if they can answer.

Thank you in advance. Is it safe to travel in the 12th to 15th week of pregnancy? There's nothing wrong with traveling that early in your pregnancy. It's when you late into your third trimester that it can become a problem. Unfortunately, if you are going to miscarry in the first trimester, there's not much you can do to prevent it. Traveling won't make you have a miscarriage. I'd double check with my doctor just to be safe, but I'm sure you'll be just fine! Good luck!! and congrats! Is it safe to travel in the 12th to 15th week of pregnancy?
Its always best to mention it to your doctor first but my doctor said I could travel up til I was 36 weeks. Just get up and walk occasionally so your legs will get circulation cuz you can get blood clots if you sit to long.Is it safe to travel in the 12th to 15th week of pregnancy? You are definately okay! I had a cruise to go to the bahamas while I was pregnant, and traveled a lot. My Doctor who was very esteemed and successful, was fine with my travel until I was 35 weeks. This is when he wanted me to discontinue all my travels until i delivered. I delivered a perfect baby girl, no complications. He said there was no reason for me to be concerned about traveling, he did recommend when leaving the country that I didnt drink the water in certain countries but that was all. So your traveling should be absolutely fine.Is it safe to travel in the 12th to 15th week of pregnancy?
When I was 6 weeks pregnant I took an 16 hour plane ride and I had to transfer planes twice then when I was 4,5 months I went back same plane ride 2 transfers, when I was pregnant with my second child I flew for 1,5 when I was 4,5 months pregnant and flew back 2 weeks later.

If I were you I would not fly unless it's Absolutely necessary, I would not sit on the chair completely I lifted my but of the chair while landing just in case we had a hard landing so my arms would take the impact and not my whole body.Is it safe to travel in the 12th to 15th week of pregnancy?you should ask your doctor and see what he thinks, but my opinion i think it will be fine (fingerscrossed). %26amp; good luck.

as long as itss not after 6 months thats when you cant fly.

What types of visa can I get for travel to the US with a criminal conviction?

I was convicted of Drink Driving (DR10) a few weeks ago (1st offence) and I was due to go on holiday to Peru and transit via Newark Airport and spend a few days in New York on the way back. I read on the US embassy website that I now needed a visa (if you have ever been convicted or arressted - even if the arrest didn't lead to a charge) and couldn't use the visa waiver form. So I cancelled the holiday. I am now planning to go in November and I am happy to apply for a visa at the US emabssy, but the police check required for the Embassy appointment takes 40 days and the embassy decision takes another 14. So will i have to go through this process every time I want to go to america on a non-immigrant visa? Or are there other visa types that once I have it, I can travel to the US for multiple entries over a lond period (maybe a few years)? I have read about a waiver of ineligibility - what does this allow and who is it for please? Drik driving is not a serious offence unless u run someone over lolWhat types of visa can I get for travel to the US with a criminal conviction?I think you go through the same procedure pretty much for every visa application regaless of visa type. There no US multi-entry visas from the UK for tourists; the existing multi-entry visas are immigrant, worker, or business visas. What types of visa can I get for travel to the US with a criminal conviction?Try flying KLM via Amsterdam instead. It's getting to be a real drag going to or through the US.What types of visa can I get for travel to the US with a criminal conviction?
Your DWI conviction may not be that much of a problem, but having it has tossed you into the bureaucratic barrel. You probably should go through with the USA visa process to eliminate the issue for the future.

However, transit through Canada or somewhere in the Caribbean instead if you need to travel soon.

    Good luck.

One of the biggest questions we have yet to answer is where do our souls go when they leave us? It may be that they are not earthbound.

On the physical plane, though, your answer is yes. We will reach the stars someday. Will any of us be alive to see it? No. Our governments are moving too slowly.

If God were real. There would have been some kind of evidence. You yourself would not believe in something outrageous I told you without anything but my word, but you believe and trust and depend on the word of others who you have no idea of who they really are. I DO NOT understand how you religious people could believe in something SO unproven. "God" is nothing but an old ignorant belief that has been carried on for too long.

If your car gets 28 miles to the gallon, how many litters of gasoline are necessary to travel 112 km?How many litters of gasoline are necessary to travel 112km?First, we need to convert everything to the same unit. I will change everything into miles and liters.

    112km=69.5935 mi

    1 gallon= 3.79 liters

    (1) If you drive at a constant speed of 65 mi/h, how long does it take you to reach New York?

    distance/speed= time

    69.5935mi/ 65mi/h= 1.07h

How do you rate those overseas packaged tours operated by Malaysian travel agents?

Have you ever been cheated and in what way? Like optional tours, meals, etc. Which are good travel agents you have travelled with? I never like those China tours with add-ons: optional tours, bell boy tips, additional tips for bus driver, etc. Western countries tours are more professional. No other add ons. What is your experience on this? How do you rate those overseas packaged tours operated by Malaysian travel agents? For overseas tours, the Malaysian tour operaters price does not include those extras because it would make the price low and affordable than it really is..... For "Western type'' tours. everything [including tips , etc.] are included in the price....How do you rate those overseas packaged tours operated by Malaysian travel agents?i havenever experience this before, but i heard from ppl many of the tours are badly manage and very lousy

Who makes the best travel clothing for long flights?

I have a business trip with my husband and I will be on a plane and travelling with executives for close to 14 hours. Who makes the best travel clothing for style, comfort, stain resistant and wrinkle resistance?Who makes the best travel clothing for long flights?I have done the New Zealand to UK trip a couple of times, which is a 24 flight experience ( or longer depending on your layovers!)....I found that cotton was good...I wore jeans ( stretch) and cotton t-shirts and a cardigan.......I think if you wear something that desiguises stains well, has stretch, is natural fibres you should be fine. Shoes that go on and off quickly are also good as I took them off when I was sitting down but was up and down a few times to the toilet ( and wlaking to strech a bit) so its easy to get them on.

I wouldn't buy new clothes to go travelling specfically...I don;t see the point.Who makes the best travel clothing for long flights?Pack very light then buy clothes where ever you go.. CHEAP clothes.. then leave them in the hotel room when you leave... your clothes will always look clean and fresh and you won't be carting 5 suitcases around with you.Who makes the best travel clothing for long flights?I would go with a nice long cardigan, comfortable t-shirt or tank, tailored jeans in a dark wash or dress pants (though this would be disregarding the stain resistance), and a cute pair of flats. This outfit says you are put together and you can be comfortable at the same time.

The adapter adapts from plug on the charger to one that fits the wall outlet. You won't fry your computer as long as the voltage to the charger stays within the specified range.

She has a passport but I know there are other forms. Please post links! ThanksWhat documents does a 16yr old need to travel abroad without family? She will need a visa, as you will.

Medical/Travel Insurance in her own name is essential too.

In Europe a sixteen year old is not regarded as a child in the same way as in the US.

The travel agent who is making the arrangements will be able to advise you best on what is needed for the trip. 00What documents does a 16yr old need to travel abroad without family?Other than a passport, she may need a visa to enter Spain, depending upon her citizenship. Her parents may also wish to prepare a signed and notarized letter indicating that they have given permission for her to travel outside of the country with persons who are not her family -- some governments may require this letter to be shown due to kidnapping concerns.

  • What is the best airline to use to travel to Japan?

I live in Mississippi and planning to travel to Tokyo. I've never been on a plane, so i would like some experienced flyers to help me choose the best airline at an affordable price.

    Thanks, your help is appreciated.

*sorry ask too many questions tonight, many more may come..i've never been on a plane or even out of state. What is the best airline to use to travel to Japan? There is little difference between airlines as long as you are taking economy class. You do not have to worry about it so much.

It make some difference only in business and first classes. What is the best airline to use to travel to Japan?
well if Mississippi has Delta then get it.

Off brand airlines, usually don't have has many flyer protection plans like, stolen goods recovery, luggage search, etc.,

Many first time fly worry about flight, it's all about your items, and luck. No fragile items in luggage, they throw luggage and use machine for newer airports and international flights, so nothing the you are scared of breaking from a fall.

If you have a great pilot and no jacka$$es on the flight your good.

I did a price at delta.com and it said the cheapest flight for Jackson, Mississippi to Tokyo,Japan would take 33hrs, and 55 minutes, with stops. at $2,257.47(this is tax included)

I would spend a extra $463.03 to get there in 16hr and 23 minutes for $2,720.50

This price will change for airport, arrival date, departure and times, don't forget luggage weightWhat is the best airline to use to travel to Japan?Economy seats are not much different each other all. Price may be varied not by airline but by time and place. Just use the airline you have its mileage card that you'll utilize your Pacific round trip miles effectively later. If you choose JAL airline, you can try some Japanese meal in the air. But again, if you don't go to Japan so often, try American airline as better mileage option.
Hi there, sadly there is no cheapest airline option. You would have to take a domestic flight to an international airport near you (i am not from the states) so i am guessing Houston? I have done a search and the following fly to Japan from nearby but the price difference is minimal:

    US Airways

    Japan Airlines

    All Nippon Airways

    United

    DELTA

These airlines fly direct to Japan and only make the domestic stop to a major international hub. They all run into thousands sadly. Search on google for cheap international flights from.....to Tokyo (for example) and have a look at your local travel agent.. They usually have some great dealsWhat is the best airline to use to travel to Japan? If you are flying coach/economy then it really doesn't matter.

I do prefer flying Asian airlines because the service is better, but JAL and ANA prices (both Japanese airlines) tend to be more expensive then US airlines. Delta usually has cheaper tickets, I often fly Delta. The service stinks, but the tickets are usually cheap and I have a bunch of frequent flier miles with them so I get first class upgrades sometimes.

Just buy an economy ticket with the cheapest airline, sit back, get some sleep and enjoy the actual trip in Japan. What is the best airline to use to travel to Japan?
If the price and itinerary work out for you, probably JAL. My coworker has made several trips from San Francisco to Manila with plane change in Narita on JAL, and she has been very pleased with them. Part of what makes that work for her is that she does have relatives to visit near San Francisco, so she will buy a separate ticket from Boise on Southwest. I have flown several times from Boise to Taipei via San Francisco and Narita on United. It's not bad, nothing to rave about. Part of why that works for me is the itinerary, including the United non-stop from Boise to SFO. So a significant consideration could be what domestic flight is compatible with your international flight in putting together your ticket.
I have taken Delta and Continental to/from Japan and would highly recommend both. But when it comes down to an affordable price, you should really go with the airline that gives you... the most affordable price.

Unfortunately, as many others have said, you'll have to connect through another airport which increases the price. i.e. through Dallas on American Airlines, through San Francisco on United....

When looking for airfares you should remember about code-share agreements that airlines have with each other. For example American and JAL are in the same alliance, while United and ANA are in the same alliance.

Airfare also depends on when you travel. This past winter and spring I saw airfare deals to Japan from major cities for as low as around $600. Right now the airfares to Japan for the summer are hovering around $1000 or so. A good chart that you can look at for airfares can be found on the website for the Houston office of JTB USA... enter your departure city in Mississippi into the chart for fares. Note however that they only offer the "U Airline" (United), the "D Airline" (Delta) or Continental. http://www.jtbusa.com/en/sp/s-hou.asp

You can also check Fare Compare's Low Fare Finder for more options. Be sure to click "My dates are flexible." http://www.farecompare.comWhat is the best airline to use to travel to Japan?
    of course Japan Airlines.
    JAL (Japan Airlines) of course.
I would recommend JAL if you can because they treat their passengers with a taste of Japanese-ness from foods, on-board movies, and the stewardess are more professional; the standards for hiring an airline stewardess is very high for JAL. I have relatives who worked for JAL recruiting and some years they only hire 3 out of 100 applicants.

In terms of price, it will depend on the season because that is the big determining factor in pricing and not really the carrier. If you buy your tickets far ahead, you can usually save a little.

Since you have never flown before, here are some tips that will make it more enjoyable:

    1) Get what is call a Dogbone neck pillow. It's an inflatable C-shape pillow that you put around your neck to help you sleep a little more comfortable. When you use it, don't inflate it to the max, but about 3/4 of the way. The airlines provide pillows but I've found them all way too soft.

    2) If you are sensitive to light when you sleep, get an eye mask for sleeping. Often times, there will be some inconsiderate idiot who want to read all the way to Japan and they would have their overhead lamps on. Very annoying especially when the airline deliberately lower the lights in the cabin to let people sleep.

    3) Get a pair or more of the memory foam ear plugs. Again, for sleeping.

    4) Drink plenty of water or non-alcoholic drinks. Avoid alcohol because the long flight in the dry cabin atmosphere will dehydrate you and alcohol makes it worse.

    5) If you are one of those people who gets sick to their stomach when riding roller-coaster, you may be prone to air sickness. The airlines provide what is call a barf-bag and you'll find it in the pouch-like compartment in the back to the seat in front of you. Just in case...

    6) Always keep your seat belt on when you sit down. Severe air turbulance are rare, but they do happen and have been known to be violent enough to throw passengers out of their seats.

    7) Dress comfortably and wear the most comfortable shoes you have.

    8) Use the restroom, don't wait. You'll thank me ;-)

    9) Enjoy the flight, but get your sleep. You are going to feel a bit jet-lagged when you land, so it it important you get a good sleep. When you get to Japan, take it easy the first 24 hours so your body can adjust.

    Have a wonderful trip!

In Travel Insurance why is there a large difference in premiums when the policies are similar?

I have been comparing travel insurance for two people under 60 for four days in europe. I have checked the excess details and there is no considerable difference between the different insurers. The policies I viewed are almost identicle and where I have seen differences, they are negligible.

So why have I seen policies with premiums as high as 拢30 and some low as 拢6-拢7 (and the insurance is covered by big insurers for the low ones I found too). I looked at the small print and again from what I could make of it, there was no considerable difference.

What's the difference then? What am I missing? and if it is as black and white as I can see, then is it worth me just buying the insurance at the cost of 拢7?In Travel Insurance why is there a large difference in premiums when the policies are similar? As someone who's a qualified underwriter and once actually wrote the small print ..................

Travel insurance as sold by travel agents is one huge scam.

Once one sets aside the stuff sold by travel agents, the difference tends to hinge on three things:

    1. the method of selling: companies geared up to selling on the internet have very low overheads compared to others

    2. the strictness of underwriting i.e. how they treat "substandard lives." Some policies are only offered at standard rates to people who in effect have never had a day's illness in their lives. If you've ever been near a hospital for anything or if your parents died before they were 80 you aren't covered, even if they've taken your premium. It's all there in the small print, if you could understand it.

    3. the claims policy of the company concerned. Some companies keep the premiums low by contesting every last penny of every claim and in effect paying out next to nothing. Others charge more but pay out more readily.

Read the small print VERY carefully.

For what it's worth -- and it's decades since I worked in insurance and there's nothing in it for me! -- I've used

    www.simpletravelinsurance.co.uk

with considerable satisfaction. It's an example of the sort of company that keeps the price down by using the internet via a well-designed website.

No one company is best for everyone, though, so do your homework thoroughly.

If you absolutely must use a travel agent's insurance, then Trailfinders are as good as any of the travel agents' insurance offerings.

    www.trailfinders.com

Nothing at all wrong with it, but there's cheaper out there on the web that's just as good.In Travel Insurance why is there a large difference in premiums when the policies are similar?
Is one for a single trip and the other for a whole year? Or one just European and the other worldwide cover? Or perhaps one covers you for damage/loss? Did you give exactly the same answers to the medical questions in both cases as they may have underwritten you differently?

If none of these apply, you will probably be better off with the cheaper one. It is advisable if you are travelling in Europe to get the NHS cover as the person above suggests. You can apply for it online. It's a really simple form and we got our little card jobbies three days later. If you check on the Dept of Health website, it explains on there that there are certain instances where the medical insurance will not cover you if you do not have the E111 equivalent card completed. In Travel Insurance why is there a large difference in premiums when the policies are similar?the premium can vary based on

    1. the duration of stay ; you may be buying a one-year or longer duration cover for one,

    2. based on their biodata one person may have a higher risk rating thean the other in terms of health, age, claims experience etc.,

    3. one may have a higher limit of indemnityIn Travel Insurance why is there a large difference in premiums when the policies are similar?
    why u want trav insurance...

get an ehic cardIn Travel Insurance why is there a large difference in premiums when the policies are similar?just use an E1 11 form - its free

whatever treatment you have in a European hospital, the NHS will cover the cost.

might have to check if it doesn't cover certain things.

The differences鈥?might be the same as Persil and Daz. they are made in the same factory, by the same people, but one is more expensive than the other - why? you can cover two markets at the same time.

The more expensive will sell less but have higher percentage profits, the others the opposite - general market stuff i presume.

    He def. can.
Yes, he can travel alone. Just make the airline aware and he will be looked after by the cabin crew. How old do you have to be to travel on airoplanes alone?
I travelled alone from Chile to England since I was 11, and I remember kids as young as 6 travelling alone (being looked after the airline staff). Once I was 12, the airlines said legally I wasn't their resposibility anymore but they still looked after me until I was about 13 as a goodwill gesture.

I'm not sure if this has changed over the years, as I'm 25 now, but what really heped, for my first few flights, my mum typed detailed instructions on what I should do when travelling (signs to follow at each airport, what passport control would ask me etc etc)
Im no sure about other airlines, but on air tran their unaccompanied minor program is for 12 years or younger, but im sure you can request it.
I have been traveling back and forth from the U.S to mexico and from the u.s to europe since I was 5. So I'm absolutley ceratin your son can too!

How do you go about starting an online travel booking agency?

I have a lease on the building already and I'm doing taxes, immigration, and other services. What do I need to expand in order to also offer my clients travel packages? How do you go about starting an online travel booking agency?Since you already have a physical location, you are probably better off having a "physical" travel agency.

I would advise following the strategies to become a "home-based" agent. There's nothing to say you can't do it out of an office!

Essentially, that means forming a *business* relationship with an existing, bonded travel agency (preferably not one in your town) to be one of their outside agents. (There is a way to become a completely separate, independent agency in your own right, but I don't recommend it to beginners.)

You would operate under your own business name but funnel bookings through your "host agency," which would then split the commission with you. You do the marketing and selling, they handle all the "back office" tasks. Commissions splits range from 50% to 70%. Deals that offer "100% of commission" come with fees that effectively reduce your actual share of the commission to about 70%.

I would recommend that you start small, by offering a few highly targeted products, like tours that you know will appeal to your existing clientele or cruises out of a port that your customer can drive to. DON'T start out trying to do anything and everything. In case you don't know already, there are no commissions paid for airline tickets.

I don't recommend an "online" strategy. You are up against BIG companies with DEEP pockets and you can't compete. There are outfits that will give you "your own branded web site" (for a monthly fee), but very few people make any significant money this way. Most don't come anywhere close to covering the monthly fees.

Has anyone bought tickets for Disneyland from Jetter Travel or another agency? Do they really work?

I am planning a trip to Disney in December for my family of 7 and heard about these agencies that sale(rent) discounted tickets. I looked on Ebay and saw many postings for Jetter travel. Are these tickets really legit? Do they really work? I am worried I will be scammed.

Any info would be nice. Thanks!Has anyone bought tickets for Disneyland from Jetter Travel or another agency? Do they really work? They violate park policy. As to being legit, I can't say. You take a risk. What these people are doing is selling individual days on a multi-day ticket which goes against park policy. Tickets expire 13 days after their first use, so it may be thatyour ticket has expired. Or if there's a significant gap between uses, Disney may question you on how the ticket was previously used. Give the wrong answer and Disney will confidcate the ticket.

Within the next few years, businesses like Jeter Travel will be out of business. Disneyland plans on installing fingerprint-reading biometric devices so that only the owner of the ticket can use it again.Has anyone bought tickets for Disneyland from Jetter Travel or another agency? approximately 8 minutes . but when the light is tired . then it take approximately 10 minutes .How long does it take for light to travel from the Sun to the Earth? Its approximately 8 minutes...

    Working : Speed = distance/time

    so time = dis/speed = 1 AU / 3 * 10^8 = 150 * 10^6/3 * 10^8

= 8 min (approx)How long does it take for light to travel from the Sun to the Earth?
    about eight light minutes
It depends where the distance of the earth is, when the earth is at its farthest positions, the light can travel to earth in 9 minutes or more, and while the earth is at its nearest positions, light can travel 8 minutes or less.

That's why news say (in some weather forcasts) say that sunrise can always happen between 6:05-6:11 A.M. because light will always strike atabout 8 or 9 minutes. How long does it take for light to travel from the Sun to the Earth?
IT takes about 8 minutes and 3 seconds to travel light from sun to earth.

Do not worry, UAE is a very safe place for women. Flying is an option that's out, the 2 places are only 150 km away from each other. The best and commonly used option is to drive. If you do not have a license or new to the place, take any registered taxi. It will take + or -an hour and half depending on where you are travelling from.

How much do the travel agents earn in each holiday deal?

I wondered, roughly how much travel agent's make from holiday deals. For instance, how much cheaper would the average holiday be if travel agents were not involved. How much do the travel agents earn in each holiday deal?depends on each company percentage that they offer to the agentsHow much do the travel agents earn in each holiday deal?Like car salesman, most depend on commision. But unlike salesman they can't make a price to receive higher commision, I sure agents earn a lot in holiday since most busy time of year. But, ever since of internet appear for the public, agent business isn't as good as before; due to people rather wanted to save time. Example I compare price of agent and the website; no different at all.How much do the travel agents earn in each holiday deal? They work on commission so it variesHow much do the travel agents earn in each holiday deal?
Jason, you're right on it! And what revealed that thought to you was of a higher power. This simple question, was the inspiration that had started a shift in a 7 trillion dollar travel industry. Nobody ever believed that when the cell phone came out, that eventually everyone would have one. Jason, what's happening in the market place today, it's owning your own travel website, whereby, knocking out the brick and mortar office of a travel service and agent, who in-turn made a 60% commission from the vendors on all YOUR accommodations. Now owning YOUR own travel website, you book your own travel arrangements and the vendors pay you the 60% commission. Now, with this valuable information, that can change your life, Jason, what are you going to do with it. It didn't come to you just to think about, it's your time to go to another level in your lifestyle. • How can I help my 10 month old travel on an airplane comfortably?

I know travel on airplanes is difficult for children especially with the change is pressure, how can I limit her discomfort? Do the make ear plugs that small? How can I help my 10 month old travel on an airplane comfortably?I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lot with my three children. To be honest, this business about pressurization is highly overrated. I've never had any problems in any of our many flights and I rarely saw it at work.

Would your 10 month old really tolerate ear plugs? I'm not sure what purpose they serve since you want his ears to adjust, not prevent it.

It's actually a myth that children need to suck on something for take-off and landing. My children fly between Europe and California about twice a year, since each was 4 months old and I have never, ever done anything special with them for take-offs and landings.

    ENT specialists simply recommend that the child is awake for landing;

    http://www.entcda.com/AAOHNSF/earsandalt鈥?/a>

    So does the FAA;

    http://www.aap.org/patiented/flyingbaby.鈥?/a>

The delicate time is not during take-off or landing/touchdown but at the *top of descent*. This is usually 40 minutes to an hour before landing and everyone's ears have to reverse the pressurization. I can confirm that when I worked, if any passengers had ear problems, this was the time. Not just children either! They actually felt *better* as we got closer to landing.

The BEST way to avoid ear issues is to take your little guy to the doctor a few days before flying. My son was good at getting symptomless ear infections. Make sure yours' doesn't have one of those. The doctor will look in his ears and make sure they're clear and infection-free. Healthy ears can handle pressurization changes.

Bring some baby paracetamol or tylenol if he seems uncomfortable but so many times, people think the baby's ears are suffering and I suggest to take off the hot sweater...and the crying stops! Another time my daughter was crying and we were *still on the ground*. Someone asked if it was her ears! Babies often cry during boarding. But don't not do anything about his cries, thinking it's his ears!

    For more information, I wrote an article on this subject going more into detail on packing, security, etc. There are a lot of articles on the net but most are written by people who never actually worked for an airline. It's based on both my personal and professional experience of flying with kids, mine and the many passengers I had. It's totally non-commercial and other parents have contributed;

    http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com

Have a good flight! How can I help my 10 month old travel on an airplane comfortably?Bring a bottle for her to drink while the plane is taking off and landing. Make sure to have a sweater in case the plane is cold. Bring snacks for her and some small toys to hold her interest. There will be plenty of new things for her to look at and that may keep her busy a while.

I am British and live in the UK.What types of visa can I get for travel to the US with a criminal conviction?DUI (as we call it across the pond) is not a 'crime involving moral turpitude', which is the only sort of crime that can bar you from the US. So if you are a British citizen with a UK passport, you can, with a clear conscience, either apply for a US nonimmigrant visa, or travel to and through the US without a visa as long as you stay no longer than 90 days. Here is info on the visa waiver; everybody uses it:

  • How long does it take an electron to travel from the outlet to the lamp?

A table lamp is connected to an electric outlet by a copper wire of diameter .20 cm and length 2.0m. Assume that the current through the lamp is 1.5A, and that this current is steady. How long does it take an electron to travel from the outlet to the lamp? How long does it take an electron to travel from the outlet to the lamp?Use J=n*e*v_d, where J is the current density, n is the free charge concentration, e is the charge of an electron, and v_d is the drift velocity.

    J = current/area=1.5/(π*(0.001)^2)=4.77E5 A/m^2

It is conventional to assume one free electron per copper atom. n = # electrons/m^3 = NA*ρ/M, where NA = Avogadro's number, ρ is the density of copper and M is the molar mass of copper. n = 6.022E23*8960/0.06354 = 8.49E28 m^-3.

    Drift velocity is therefore 4.77E5/8.49E28/1.6E-19 = 3.51E-5 m/s.

Total time for an electron to travel 2.0 m is 2/3.51E-5 = 15.8 hours

Of course you don't have to wait until electrons from the outlet reach the lamp; free electrons in the copper wire leave the wire and are replaced by electrons from the outlet. The signal travels at nearly the speed of light, even though the drift speed of an electron is only 13 cm/hour.

    __________________

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drift_veloc… and you will see how slow drift velocities typically are for electrons in copper wires. How long does it take an electron to travel from the outlet to the lamp?like .oo1 secondHow long does it take an electron to travel from the outlet to the lamp?Only the outermost electrons actually move.

A mol of copper contains Avogadro's number of atoms and occupies about 7.15 ml = 7150 mm3. (EDIT: Earlier I had transposed digits and got the wrong number for this part.) The wire cross section is 3.1416 mm2, so a Coulomb of mobile electrons occupy 7150 mm3 / 3.1416 mm2 = 2.276 m of wire.

A Coulomb contains Avogadro's number of electrons. If one electron per atom is mobile (big assumption), then the average mobile electron is moving at 1.5 x 2.276 = 3.414 m/s.

    It takes about 2 / 3.414 = 0.586 sec.

Of course, this assumes the lamp is powered by D/C current. A/C just moves back and forth about 30 millimeters. How long does it take an electron to travel from the outlet to the lamp?
The current is defined as the number of coulombs per second passing by a certain point.

We can figure out the resistance of the copper wire using the equation...

R = p (l/A) where p(rho) is the resistivity, which of copper is...1.68x10^-8 (ohm meters)

l is the length of wire, 2.0m, and A is the cross sectional area which is given by pi(r^2) where r is the radius of wire, .10cm = .001m

Using this resistance get the voltage, V = IR

This voltage due to the conservation of energy gives us the equation

eV = 1/2mv^2 where e is the electronic charge, solve for velocity v

    v = sqrt(2eV/m)

Using this velocity, solve for how long it takes the electron to travel 2m.

What are the travel rules for Mexican residents?

Are there any special procedures for someone who lives in Mexico to travel to other countries?

You know, like us Americans; we can go to Spain for vacation or Amsterdam for fun. (Actually, I don't even know if there any special procedures for us to travel...Maybe because I don't travel.)

Can Mexicans go to their airport (with a passport and stuff) and travel to other countries? What if they want to become residents?

I would guess all travel procedures apply to everyone. What are the travel rules for Mexican residents? It varies for every country.

Some countries will require visas to be obtained prior to travel. The U.S. requires this for citizens of MOST other countries. Many countries require the same thing of U.S. citizens (I had to apply for a visa from the Brazilian embassy several weeks before my trip to Rio de Janeiro --- see, it's a good thing you didn't just show up at the airport with your stuff, because you wouldn't be getting on the plane).

U.S. citizens generally have fairly lax requirements for traveling to other countries.

Mexicans have considerably tougher requirements with many countries that have no visa requirements for U.S. citizens requiring advance visas for Mexican citizens (particularly those who also reside in Mexico).

Check the embassy or consulate web pages of each country for authoritative information about what their visa requirements might be. Also remember that it's the TRAVELER'S responsibility to find out about these, not the airline's, and if you manage to buy a ticket without being advised of a visa requirement, it's still regarded as your fault and you shouldn't expect a refund.

    Have fun!

MarkWhat are the travel rules for Mexican residents?Mexican citizens may get a passport and travel freely wherever they like. Some countries are very difficult for Mexicans to get a visa to...like the U.s. Other countries that require Americans to have a visa , do not require Mexicans to have one. I live in Mexico and know Mexican citizens who travel the world...just takes money...like anywhere else.

Is their such a profession where you can travel around the world teaching English to students?

I've always wanted to travel and have never really done it. I also like learning about cultures and languages other than my own.Is their such a profession where you can travel around the world teaching English to students? If you look online there is a lot of teaching jobs where they ask you to go to a different country for a few months. You just send your resume and if they think you qualify, they hire you. If your looking for something more discreet, I suggest you still look online. If you don't live near the places you are hoping to apply for then there's not really any other way I know of.Is their such a profession where you can travel around the world teaching English to students?Yes, definitely. You're talking TEFL - teaching english as a foreign language.

In general you'll need a degree (although there are still possibilities if you do not have this) and a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate to get a visa and work.

The TEFL certificate can be taken either in-house or online at your own pace which is a much cheaper option (see http://icalweb.com).

Then it's just a matter of sorting out where you want to go. There are plenty of jobs around so it shouldn't be hard to find work.Is their such a profession where you can travel around the world teaching English to students?Yep, it's called TEFLing. Go to www.eslcafe.com to find out more. Be aware that the majority of the places don't pay much. You can live well and travel a bit. The Middle East and Korea pay the best.Is their such a profession where you can travel around the world teaching English to students?
I hope you made the mistake in spelling there on purpose! Very clever, indeed.

What are some good places to travel and take pictures of nature and stuff?

What are some good places to travel and take pictures of nature, buildings, and stuff? I want to know this because when I grow up I plan on traveling TONS (and i mean tons) of places in the world. I love to take pictures of people and stuff, and I'm good at it too. I plan on getting a good paying job to full fill my dream of traveling. If you have any suggestions on places please tell me. And if you can please tell me what kind of stuff there are there to take pictures of. Thanks!!!What are some good places to travel and take pictures of nature and stuff?Hey Kelly. Your plan sounds great and it's good you're starting young! As far as travel pics go, I would say concentrate on nature and landscape as well as people. Taking pictures of bird life is very popular (and also fun!) and you could make some money selling pics of rare birds. The island of Menorca in Spain is a wonderful place for nature walks. I have stayed at a resort called Son Bou and apart from the great food and beaches, one of my favourite things was to go walking along the cliffs and see all the amazing bird life. I wish i had had a camera with me! I guess i'll just have to wait for your pics! Good luck! What are some good places to travel and take pictures of nature and stuff?St Thomas. Is so great....When you land..There is a hotel 2 mins from the Airport which has a private island and great resturant and Great Service. The follwong day's you can go on tours, mountain climbing, snorkinling, diving and when i tell you ...you will be out in the middle of no where 120 ft of water and see right to the bottom. Crystal Clear. Diving is like being in a Human Aquarium. Amazing. Its very cheap. Spirt Airlines has one way's for 79.00
